It's hard to believe it, but we've entered into the last quarter of 2021! As the holidays quickly approach, I like to prepare my home for guests this time of year. There are many simple things you can do to make your home feel more inviting and cozy.
In your entryway, you can add a few seasonal decor items to your console table. I love to put mirrors in this space because it allows guests to take a quick peek at themselves before greeting others, you know, check for smeared lipstick or lettuce stuck in your teeth! We recently added a journal to our entryway. This book was a gift from my daughter, and we have guests write in it as kind of a guest book of gratitude. It's a fun way to get to know everyone's unique personalities.
Living rooms and kitchens are the main gathering spaces during the holidays. In the living room, a comfy sofa is a must! Our living room is small, so we opted for a single cushion sofa and large leather ottoman to maximize seating. We always keep a few cozy throw blankets in a basket for guests to stay warm or even take outside if the weather is mild.
When it comes to kitchenware, classic is my go-to. There are some beautiful small kitchen appliances like this mixer, this coffee machine, and this toaster that I don’t mind leaving out on the counter. Occasionally, I will accent with a few decorative serving pieces like this one or this one. Then I will create a low centerpiece with flameless candles and greenery.
In the bathrooms, I add travel-sized items and extra towels for house guests. I think of this space as a luxury hotel bath and accessorize accordingly. I will also keep room sprays in there, and these are my favorite ones [use code EVALIADESIGN20 for discount].
We recently added a designated guest room to our home, complete with robes, slippers, and a folding luggage rack for out-of-town guests. We chose this bed, the coziest mattress, and a folding box frame to set up the space easily—a USB lamp and hotel-like accessories accent the nightstands. I'm in love with this sheet set too! It is so soft! Finally, I will create an arrival gift basket consisting of a few items like water bottles, snacks, and Nespresso pods.
