With a wall between the existing kitchen and dining room, the client’s kitchen was cramped and congested. To make matters worse, the kitchen was a galley style with an eat in area which literally cut the kitchen in half.
The clients wanted a space that felt open and inviting for entertaining. They had two windows in the present kitchen that were lower than counter height and they didn’t want to affect the outside of the home. There was also a bulkhead in the kitchen that contained ductwork that couldn’t be moved.
We proposed removing the wall between the dining room and kitchen. We created window wells to keep the windows in tact while maximizing counter space. In order to address the bulkhead being different on each side of the kitchen we used complimentary crown details and added some character in the corner with open shelves and eclectic brackets. A blue island and antique brass lights were used to add drama to the space and create a focal point that reflected the clients’ personal style. They can now easy fit more than 20 guest in the space without it feeling cramped or crowded.
Since this is their first home together as a newly married couple, we chose products that were great quality and in line with their budget. Fabuwood, full overlay semi-custom cabinetry, quartz countertops by Ultimate Granite and Stone, that had a marble look for added durability and easy maintenance, and Jenn Air appliances were a few of these amazing products.
